20 workers from the ACT Parks and Conservation service have now joined the ongoing cleanup efforts in Belconnen following a freak storm that struck the region last month.
They join the already 20 strong crews from the ACT’s Transport Canberra and City Services directorate, led by a Strom Response Coordinator.
Deputy Chief Minister, Yvette Berry, said the additional personnel will assist and speed up the removal of fallen trees and debris that remain across the district.
“There are currently more than 2000 requests for help logged through ‘Fix My Street’ and completed clean-up audits.”
“We appreciate the community letting us know where work needs to be completed and encourage them to continue to do so.”
However, City Services Minister, Chris Still, anticipates it will still be ‘several months’ before the cleanup is complete.
“Even with these extra resources, the large number of damaged trees and branches on public land means that the storm clean-up is going to take several months.”
