Almost $7 million dollars has been lost to scams in the ACT in just the first half of this year.
That’s according to new stats from the ACCC’s online Scamwatch reporting system.
It found that between 1 January and 30 June this year, a total of $6,808,414 in losses were reported in the ACT.
That’s almost the same amount lost in the ACT throughout the entirety of 2021.
Nationally, nearly $300 million has been lost in the first six months of the year.
Investment scams accounted for the greatest loss, taking more than $219 million so far this year, followed by dating and romance, remote access and false billing.
