We’re set to find out if we can change the course of an Asteroid that could one day be heading towards Earth.

On Tuesday morning, A NASA spacecraft will collide with a far away asteroid, as part of the space agency’s first ‘planetary defense test’.

Thankfully, this one is not on a path with our planet but NASA’s DART mission will find out if we’re able to defend ourselves against such an event in the future.

Mix106.3 spoke with ANU Astrophysicist Dr Brad Tucker who said it’s going to be like something out of a movie.

“Parents if you don’t know what to do with your kids today, NASA 8 am, it’s like a movie but better, it’s science”

The impact is due to take place roughly 9:15am Canberra time on Tuesday morning.

However a live stream will be beaming all the action live, via images received through the Deep Space Communication Complex in Canberra, from 8am.
